How to Educate Children Not to Be Spoiled and Can Be Independent Children

Every parent desires a child who is not spoiled, possesses an independent personality, and is a source of pride. To cultivate such traits, it is crucial to implement education methods that prevent spoiling from an early age.

The role of parents in nurturing children from a young age is crucial for developing positive character traits. Without this guidance, children may grow up lacking character, harboring negativity, and failing to grasp life's important values.

So that your child does not grow up like that, here's how to educate children so that they are not spoiled and able to be independent that mom and dad need to know. Let's take a look before it's too late!

1. Make boundaries and rules as clear as possible

The first thing in how to educate children not to be spoiled can be done by making a clear limit on what actions are allowed and which are not.

The rules set between what can be done and what is not must also be made clear and obeyed by both the child or the parent who sets the rules and limits. For example, the rules about study hours, play time and so on.

If it has been determined, when a child whines for more playtime, for example, then mom or dad must be equally committed to firmly saying 'no' if the time is indeed up. From this, children can also learn about the meaning of discipline itself.

2. Give the child responsibility

Responsibility can not only be given to children when they are adults or enter adolescence. Responsibility can even be taught from an early age to children in their golden age.

The trick is to give children tasks that can be done according to their age. So, responsibility must also be given according to the portion of the child's ability during his or her growth period. For example, for children under 2 years old or over 1 year old, mothers can clean the table and then ask the child to work on it together.

3. Don't rush to help your child

When the children say, "I can't do this" don't help them as soon as possible. See first if the difficulties they feel are really worth helping or if they can actually still try to solve the problem himself.

If the child can still solve the problem on his own, support the child to solve it. But if he feels that he can't solve it, then his mother or father can help him or maybe tell him how to solve it. That way children will get used to finding answers to their problems and be able to be independent.

4. Teach children to be patient

When the child feels difficult and gets into trouble, or when the child wants something, try first to teach the child to be patient. Give him an understanding of how to solve the problem or what he should do first to get what he wants.

5. Teach positive behavior towards children

In order for children to become people who grow up not spoiled and be independent, parents must also teach children what positive values are needed in living life.

Starting from the values of asking for help, giving to people in need, thanking, appreciating others, being grateful, apologizing and the like need to be taught from an early age.

6. To discipline children

When a mother or father has made a rule and the child violates it, does not want to obey it, or even refuses to obey it, parents must dare to discipline it. Do not hesitate to reprimand him or if necessary, give him a sanction according to his age to let the child know that his actions are wrong and should not be repeated.

If it has been disciplined but the child does not obey, what is the solution?

7. Appreciating is necessary, but don't overdo it

When a child gets an achievement, appreciating the child's actions and achievements is a must. However, in the appreciation given, parents still have to intersperse with positive words or motivations that can make the child think that he must be able to fight again and not be complacent.

Don't be too massive in giving praise because if placed excessively or inappropriately, it can actually make children feel too satisfied with the little things done and don't want to fight back.

For example, if you used to say, 'Good job!' when your child got a 100, now you can say, "Good job! Hopefully this score can be maintained and next time the test in other subjects can get this good score too!" with sentences like that, children can be more enthusiastic and try to continue to spur their abilities.

8. Be a role model

Of course, you already know the saying that children are excellent imitators. So, if you don't want your child to be spoiled, you need to be able to set an example of how to be independent.

If you want your child to be an honest person, you must also set an example of how honest attitudes and behaviors should be done.

Hopefully the information we share above can be inspiring and useful. For moms and dads who are struggling to educate their children, keep your spirits up!
