How to Respond When Your Children Give Up

Hello, parents! Have you ever faced a situation where your child easily gives up by saying, "I can't"?

If you encounter such a situation, don't hesitate to help your child change the word 'can't' to 'can't yet.'

For example, "It's not that you can't, but you can't yet. Let's try again."

That way, children still have the opportunity to learn something slowly.

In this post, we discuss parenting tips on how to respond when children give up.

Here are seven ways to respond when your child is easily discouraged, helping them stay motivated and resilient:

1. Validate Their Feelings

Don't underestimate what your child is feeling. For example, instead of saying, "It's hard, honey, let's see mom," you could say, "I see it's hard, but you can do it. Let's try together with mom."

2. Observation

Find out if your child really can't do it. If so, find out what's causing it.

3. Do together

Doing something with your child means that you accompany them while they are doing it. So, it's not like parents are doing it.

4. Give Praise.

When your child shows even the slightest progress, don't forget to praise them so that they feel encouraged.

5. Create a supportive environment

It is giving children the freedom to develop their interests and talents.

6. Let Kids Make Mistakes

If necessary, give praise, and explain that mistakes are part of the process. If a child never makes a mistake, they won't know how to correct it. Remember, stop the urge to help your child immediately by helping them finish their work, and instead encourage them to correct their mistakes on their own.

7. Be a Role Model

The seventh tip is a very important way of setting an example. If we want our children to always be enthusiastic and not give up easily, then we must also be an example that we are always enthusiastic and not easy to give up.
