How to Teach Children to Have Strong Character Through Good Habits

Everyone knows that one's success is largely determined by character. Such as honesty, hard work, perseverance, collaboration skills and others. The results of the research of parenting experts show that a person's character is largely determined by the habits that are carried out at an early age.

In general, early childhood can be defined as children under the age of 6, which is also commonly known as the golden age, which is a period that will greatly determine the character, mental, physical, and intelligence of children as they grow up. Robert Fulghum, a writer and educator from the United States, says that children in early childhood need character building.

Character building can be done by getting your child used to doing good habits. Here is how to educate children to have a strong character with good habits:

1. Do not hurt others

From an early age, your child should be taught not to hurt others, either physically or verbally. Explain to them that it can make others hurt and ask them to imagine if they are  hurt by others.

2. Play by following the rules.

The kids need to be accustomed to following and obeying rules, including when playing. This is so that they do not get used to cheating that can harm others.

3. It is not permissible to take other people's property.

Stealing or taking other people's property without permission is a very bad act. Instil this in your children from an early age. Teach them to ask for permission if they want to ask for something from other people. When they do not get permission, they should not insist. But if given, then they should say thank you afterwards.

4. Make it a habit to share.

At this age, your kids still have a high selfishness and is not yet able to share with others. Even so, they still need to be accustomed to sharing. Teach your kids to play with their friends, lend items, and give some of their sustenance to people in need.

5. Saying "Please", "Sorry", and "Thank You". These three magic words are very important to be taught and understood by the kids. Because, they will become more respectful of others, and know how to be grateful for what they have. You can also set an example, getting used to these behaviors every time you communicate with them.

6. Teach for being responsible

Such as asking him to keep his toys from getting damaged or always returning things to their original place after use.

7. Live in balance, play while learning.

Children still need plenty of play time, but they also need to learn. Therefore, accompany them to play while learning so that they still get both in balance.

8. Always eat nutritious food, with a Healthy Diet.

Healthy food must be supported by a healthy diet. For example, give them fruits during snack time or get them used to having breakfast to help the brain focus during activities. A healthy diet can also include avoiding junk food to reduce the risk of health hazards.

9. Teaching Hygiene

Such as throwing garbage in its place, washing hands after playing or before eating, routinely brushing teeth and toilet training and independent themselves. Hygiene behavior will make children accustomed to healthy living and keep their environment clean, healthy and away from disease.

10. Teaching Manners

Manners such as saying excuse me when passing in front of people, queuing, greeting and saying goodbye when leaving. The habit of good manners is very important so that he can be accepted in society.

These are the 10 habits that must be taught so that your child grows into an individual with a strong personality and character.
